I asked myself the same question about five years ago when I first heard the word.

Boudoir

It sounded fancy. Maybe a little intimidating, and honestly, like something that was probably not for someone like me. I had little idea what it actually involved, and I had a lot of assumptions that turned out to be completely wrong.

So let's clear it up, you gorgeous human.

Because if you're asking what boudoir photography is, then you deserve a real answer and access to the opportunities and empowerment that the right boudoir experience provides.

The Definition of Boudoir Photography

Boudoir is innately a style of intimate portrait photography. It's personal, guided, and rooted in celebrating who you actually are, not a filtered or idealized version of you.

The word itself comes from the French term for a woman's private room or bedroom.

While the setting is often intimate, what transpires inside a boudoir session surpasses the experience of a new location or a wardrobe choice.

Boudoir is a celebration of so many things...

Of self-love
Of body autonomy

Even of the courage it took just to show up.

What to Expect When You Arrive for a Boudoir Session

Boudoir should never be a drop-in-and-wing-it situation. From the moment you walk into my studio, you're guided through every step of the process.

Well before the day of your shoot, we've already talked through your vision, your wardrobe, and your concerns.

Hair and makeup happen in studio.

You choose your robe.

You get comfortable.

And then we shoot, with me directing every pose, expression, and angle. You are never standing in front of a backdrop wondering what to do with your hands or your body.

That's my job, and I take it seriously.

Boudoir Beyond the Surface

Boudoir's dirty little secret is a lot more empowering than you might think.

The truth you need to know before you book your session is that it's not really even about the photos.

I mean, yes, you will absolutely walk away with stunning images. But what actually happens inside a boudoir session is something harder to put on a price tag.

It encourages self-expression.

Boudoir becomes the chance to see yourself through a completely different lens.

I am constantly telling my clients that I see a different view than you do, and I mean that literally and figuratively.

The angles I choose, the lighting I use, the poses I guide you through are all specifically designed to show you what you haven't been able to see on your own.

Boudoir Is for Every Body

Boudoir doesn't have to be some future reward for getting your body to a certain place. It's not something you earn by hitting a goal weight or finally feeling confident enough.

I photograph people across every size, age, shape, and season of life.

My client closet has 900+ pieces, XS to 6XL, because I want everyone who walks through my door to find something that fits and actually feels like them.

There's no standard here. There's only you, just as you are. And that's amazing.

The Transformation That Happens in the Boudoir Studio

What makes boudoir genuinely special, and what keeps me doing this work, is what can only be described as a shift.

It happens partway through almost every session. The nervousness settles, and something loosens.

Then there's that moment when I flip the camera around and show a client the first image.

The response is almost always the same.

Yes. That has always been you. The camera didn't create anything. It just gave you a chance to finally see it.
